FM/UL fire protection pipe in ERW and seamless, produced to ASTM and EN standards with plain, beveled, grooved or threaded ends.
Both lines are FM/UL rated fire protection pipe. The difference is how the tube is formed.
Electro-resistance-welded pipe is the workhorse of fire sprinkler systems. It is rolled from steel strip and welded along the seam, giving a smooth bore and the full range of ends and finishes. Choose it for mains, risers and most branch lines.
Seamless pipe is drawn from a solid billet with no weld seam, so it takes higher pressure and temperature. Specify it where the design calls for it; otherwise ERW covers the system.
We ship ERW and seamless from the same line, with matching end prep and surface finish, so the whole pipe order lands together with your fittings and hangers.
A fire pipe line is called out by four things, and each one has to be confirmed before the order is placed. The standard, which sets the chemistry and the pressure rating; the size, in the nominal diameter the drawing uses; the end, whether the joint will be plain, beveled, grooved or threaded; and the surface, original, black, red or galvanized. Send those four and the order is unambiguous. Skip any one and the pipe that arrives may be the right steel and the wrong part for the joint it has to make.
Carbon steel, either ERW (welded) or seamless (weld-free), both FM Approved and UL Listed for fire protection service.
ERW for most mains and branch lines; seamless where higher pressure, temperature or a weld-free seam is required.
Original, black, red or galvanized surface; plain, beveled, grooved or threaded ends.
When you search for a fire sprinkler pipe supplier, you are usually weighing whether the pipe is actually rated for fire service and whether the ends will match the joints you are already specifying. This line answers both: FM/UL marked, with plain, beveled, grooved or threaded ends so the pipe feeds whatever connection the design calls for.
The ERW and the seamless pipe come from the same factory line, so the chemistry, the size range and the end preparation line up across a mixed order. You are not stitching a main from one mill and a branch from another, and hoping the two behave the same in service.
Send the standard, the size, the end and the surface and the quote comes back unambiguous. A fire protection pipe order is a spec problem before it is a price problem, and the four fields above are where the spec is settled.

A general ERW pipe and a fire-rated one can look identical in the yard. These five questions are how you tell the difference before you pay.
