What the clevis hanger does on a fire line, and how to specify it.
A clevis is a yoke with two parallel ears. A bolt and clamp pass through the ears to grip the pipe, and the top of the yoke connects to the threaded rod or the anchor. Because the load lands on two ears rather than a single point, the clevis spreads the reaction over a wider area. That makes it the right call for larger diameters and for locations where the anchor is a beam flange or a steel member rather than a concrete slab.
Like the ring hanger, the clevis is built for stationary piping. It holds the pipe in a fixed position and is not intended to absorb thermal growth. For runs that move, the design provides a separate guide or a sliding support at the other end.
