The J type hanger suspends a stationary run, and it has two openings that do different jobs. The T-slot lets you install the side bolt after the pipe is already set in place, so you are not trying to thread a bolt into position around pipe that is already where it needs to be. The side hole allows the hanger to be mounted to a wall where the design shows it, instead of only off a ceiling or beam.
The sequence on site is to set the pipe to line and level, then work the side bolt home through the T-slot to take up the support. That order is the whole reason the T-slot is there: it turns a two-person lift-and-thread into a set-then-clamp.
Carbon steel, electro-galvanized, with a rating to 343 degrees C (650 F) so the support holds through a sustained fire event. The finish protects the steel in the damp, exposed locations the hanger is most likely to sit in.
Send the line with the rest of the assembly rather than as a single part. State the size against the pipe outside diameter it serves, the finish, and the count. Pair it with the matching threaded rod, nuts, washers and anchors from the same range, and flag whether the design needs the fire-rated, FM/UL marked version, so the support arrives with the pipe instead of chasing it later.
